Abu Dhabi expands paid parking to high-density zones in Mohamed Bin Zayed City
Hourly parking fee set at Dh2 with multiple payment options
ABU DHABI – Q Mobility has announced the activation of a paid parking system across additional commercial sectors in Mohamed Bin Zayed City, with implementation set to begin on 6th May.
The move comes under the regulatory oversight of the Integrated Transport Centre of the Department of Municipalities and Transport.
It forms part of a wider plan to improve traffic flow and regulate parking demand in one of the emirate’s busiest urban districts.
New rollout
The third phase of the parking expansion will introduce paid parking in sectors ME9 and ME12, both known for high commercial activity and consistent vehicle movement. Authorities aim to address congestion challenges and reduce instances of random parking that often disrupt access to shops and service outlets. The initiative is expected to support smoother entry and exit across these zones while contributing to a more structured urban environment.
Mohamed Bin Zayed City continues to witness a steady influx of workers and visitors, driven by its growing commercial landscape. This has resulted in increased pressure on available parking spaces, prompting the need for regulated solutions that can manage demand more effectively and enhance daily commuting experiences.
Space allocation
A total of 10,205 parking spaces fall under this phase, with 3,219 spaces allocated in ME9 and 6,986 in ME12. The plan includes dedicated bays for People of Determination, aligning with broader efforts to ensure accessibility and inclusivity across public infrastructure. The distribution reflects the scale of demand in these sectors and aims to optimise usage without compromising availability.
Payment system
Standard parking will be priced at Dh2 per hour. Users will be able to make payments through digital platforms such as the Darb and TAMM applications, SMS services, or on-site machines. The multi-channel system is designed to offer flexibility and convenience, reducing reliance on physical payment methods while supporting seamless transactions.
The expansion builds on earlier phases of the parking strategy. The first phase, launched on 15 December 2025, initially introduced free parking regulation across sectors ME9, ME10, ME11, and ME12. This was followed by the second phase on 6 April 2026, which implemented paid parking in ME10 and ME11, along with key commercial areas in villa zones Z17-01, Z19, Z20, and Z27.
Q Mobility stated that the phased rollout is part of a broader framework to enhance parking efficiency, reduce congestion, and improve mobility standards across Abu Dhabi, as demand continues to rise in key residential and commercial districts.
